Our parents make our club great!
We rely on you to help run our weekly carnivals. Find out more about how you can contribute towards your athlete’s experience at the club.
Set Up and Pack Up
Set up of our carnivals starts at 4:30pm. We don’t have much to do and if we all chip in it gets done in no time!
There will be setup and pack up checklists at the finish line table on the main straight for you to see what needs to be done, or simply grab a committee member and ask what still needs to be done.
The last age group at each event will be asked to pack up the equipment at that event. This will be indicated on the weekly program. There will be a pack-up co-ordinator each week to assist the age groups to pack up an event if required. Athletes should be encouraged to assist the parent helpers where possible.
- Shotput: Return spikes to holder, roll up tape measure, put shots in the crate
- Discus: Return spikes to holder, roll up tape measure, put discusses in the crate
- Vortex and Turbo Jav: Please return the throwing implements and cones to Shed 6
- Javelin: Leave all spiked safely in the ground, return spikes to holder and roll up tape measures
- Long Jump and Triple Jump: Place run-up markers in bag, sweep sand into pit, rake pit level, pull cover over pit
- High Jump and Scissor Jump: Place cross bar on the ground, place mats onto trolley
- Tots: Pack all equipment away in the cart
Age Managers and Parent Helpers
These wonderful individuals help run the events for each age group during the night. Each age group must nominate one parent as the age controller for the carnival, as well as at least 4 other parent helpers. The age controller will marshall the groups to the correct event locations and also record the event results. The parent helpers will assist to run the field events and in supervision of the athletes. Any safety or athlete behaviour concerns should be referred to a committee member immediately.
Improving your knowledge of the events is a great way to help our athletes. LANSW have developed a great (and free) online learning program called Local Athletics Basics which will help you assist athletes in the age group events. They also have officiating courses where you can learn the rules to run the events properly.
We encourage all our parent helpers to complete this training by creating a free account.
Starters, Starters Assistants, Finish line Assistants and Race Timing
Each age group will have scheduled dates to provide 1-2 parents to assist with one of these functions. The carnival cannot be run if each of these roles is not fulfilled.
Parent Helpers at Championship Events
Please be aware that athletes who attend Zone, Regional and State Championships are expected by the NSW Athletics Partnership to undertake a volunteer duty to help run the carnival. The duties are allocated to clubs who facilitate the allocation of parents to each role.
Your allocated role will in all likelihood not be for your athlete’s event. Every parent will be helping all the athletes at the event to have a great championship experience.
Officials at Championship Events
Each club provides officials to the Zone and Regional events. Any parent who has completed the LANSW officials online training can act as an official. Please contact secretary@machunter.com.au if you are interested in becoming an official.
Club Coaching
If you would like to become involved as a club coach at our training nights, please contact coaching@machunter.com.au. Note: A valid WWCC is a requirement for this activity.
